London was founded in 43 AD and has managed to retain a 2000-year architectural heritage. Architectural masterpieces from the Roman, Victorian, and Tudor periods may still be seen around the city. There are up to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites to discover. And you're never far from a castle, a building of immense political significance, or an architectural masterpiece.

The City of London, together with Canary Wharf, is a city, ceremonial county, and local government territory that comprises the historic center and serves as London's primary central business district (CBD). It formed the bulk of London from its founding by the Romans in the first century AD through the Middle Ages, although the contemporary region recognized as London has since spread significantly beyond the City of London border.

The city is now only a minor part of the Greater London metropolitan area, although it remains a major part of central London. Administratively, the City of London, like the other 32 districts (including Greater London's only other city, the City of Westminster), is not a borough of London. It is also a separate ceremonial county and the United Kingdom's smallest ceremonial county, being an enclave bounded by Greater London.
